Nihon Nohyaku ready to debut insecticide with novel mechanism

A domestic market release in fiscal 2010 in planned for Nihon Nohyaku’s Axel Flowable insecticide, as the company has secured pesticide registration for the insecticide, which has a unique action mechanism.

The insecticide contains metaflumizone, an effective ingredient internally developed by the company. It has been shown to be highly effective against harmful insect in the Lepidoptera and Coleoptera orders as well as those that have acquired tolerance to other insecticide, giving rise to expectation that it would become a key component in the pest management plans of farmers.

Metaflumizone has a trifluoromethoxyphenyl ring not seen in other insecticide. A harmful insect that has taken the chemical rapidly enters neuroparalysis, loses the ability for normal motions, and ultimately dies. It has this effect because it acts on the sodium channels of the insects’ neurocytes to hinder information transmission in their nervous systems. Its strong efficacy on insects with tolerance to synthetic-pyrethroid pesticides is testament to its singular action mechanism.

The new insecticide has been confirmed to be highly safe, with no harmful effects on humans and animals and fish toxicity as low as class A.
