The Chinese Ministry of Agriculture recently released a list of pesticide products that will be granted registration, of which, Oriental (Luzhou) Agrochemicals Co., Ltd will get a temporary registration of its 98% flufenacet technical product. The company had previously received 98% flufenacet technical registration on April 10, 2014, which expired in 2015. Bayer’s 95% flufenacet technical temporary registration also expired on June 11, 2016, which makes Oriental (Luzhou) Agrochemicals the only company holding such registration in China.
Acetanilide herbicide flufenacet was developed by Bayer as an inhibitor of cell division and growth. The active ingredient has a systemic activity and can be used as a pre- or post-emergence herbicide to kill a wide variety of grass weeds and some broad leaf weeds. Flufenacet has a strong adaptability to other ingredients, with its main mix partners including metribuzin, terbuthylazine, isoxaflutole, pendimethalin, metosulam, diflufenican, atrazine, and 2,4-D.
The first commercial product of flufenacet was launched in 1998. The global sales of flufenacet reached $205 million. Its European and US patents expired on June 13 and 14, 2009, respectively.
