Last week, Oxiteno has introduced to the market SURFOM® DRT 8575, a new adjuvant to optimize the process of spraying pesticides in farming – or, technically speaking, for drift control. The product was chosen to be in the spotlight of a lecture done by the company in the International Symposium on Adjuvants for Agrochemicals, held in Monterey, California (USA).
When added to the pesticides, SURFOM® DRT 8575 reduces product waste, avoiding the formation of very fine droplets during spraying, which may be carried by the wind and contaminate areas outside the boundary of the crop. Or very large drops that flow through the plant leaves without protecting them. “The product performs as drift control and uptake enhancer”, summarizes Fernanda Costa, R&D Chemical Engineer of Agrochemicals, Oxiteno.
The company has devoted two years to the study of this new solution. “During this period, tests were conducted in Brazil, USA and Australia with several pesticides, including in wind tunnel to simulate the conditions in the field. As a result, it was observed that SURFOM® DRT 8575 increased the biological performance of herbicides, making them more effective”, says Adriano Sales de Oliveira, R&D Manager of Agrochemicals, Oxiteno.
Among other advantages, this new adjuvant does not require compensation with additives to maintain the herbicides original properties neither dosage or spray nozzle adjustments. Furthermore, it has rate of renewable raw material above 80%.
SURFOM® DRT 8575 is registered in the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and can be already sold in United States.
