According to data from the newspaper Valor Econômico, the chemical group BASF closed the year of 2015 with worst result since 2001, when the loss reached R$ 261.5 million or US$ 112.7 considering the exchange rate of the time. The loss of BASF in Brazil last year was also influenced by the dollar variation of R$ 388.2 million, according to info published recently, which is equivalent to almost US$ 100 million by the end of December. In 2014, the loss was equivalent to R$ 77.6 million.
The company paid a bill of the Real devaluation of R$ 645.6 million at the form of liquid financial expenditures, 70% above of 2014. In the end of December, the short-term debt was almost R$ 2 billion comparing to R$ 1 billion of the previous year – the highest in the last years.
The operational side was also bad. The revenue has grown 8%, equivalent to R$ 8.66 billion, but the costs overcame that value, which left the gross profit in the same level of 2014. The operational profit fell 44% to R$ 165.4 million.
