Fendeng’s 41.8% Propiconazole EC approved for US registration

Chinese company Jiangsu Fengdeng Crop Science has received US registration for its 41.8% propiconazole EC product on 31st, Mar. The product is used to control leaf blight, leaf spot, powdery mildew, rust, dry rot, brown rot, blight and anthracnose disease in a number of crops, including almonds, banana and plantain, beet, berries, carrots, celery, barley, oats, rye, corn and some other crops.
Propiconazole is a triazole fungicide with protective and curative activities. The ingredient can be absorbed via root, stem and leaf of a plant and quickly move to the upper body. Propiconazole is usually used for controlling diseased induced by ascomycetes, basidiomycetes and deuteromycotina fungi, and is especially affective in handling wheat take-all, powdery mildew, rust, root rot, and banana leaf spot disease .
Propiconazole was firstly developed by Janssen in the late 70s last century and commercialized by Ciba-Geigy in the 80s. For now, propiconazole has received registration around the world including the US, UK, Germany, Japan, Australia and China, accounting for one of the largest sold pesticide active ingredient in global market. Sales of propiconazole reached $ 335 million in 2014, making it the top 5 sold triazole fungicide.
Currently, global capacity of propiconazole is around 6,000 tons, in which China occupied 3,500 tons. Fengdeng is a major propiconazole manufacture in China with an annual capacity of 1,500 tons technical and 2,000 tons formulation. The company had received propiconazole technical registration in US in 2015, and formed collaboration with local company. Propiconazole is mainly used for cereals, corn and soybeas, with major formulation type as EC, WP and SC in the US. Fengdeng said the company will further tighten the relationship with local companies and expand the market with propiconazole mixture product in the future utilizing the advantage as a manufacture.
