During the 2015/2016 season, Argentina would be the third largest producer of processed oilseeds, only behind the United States and China, and overcoming Brazil and the European Union, according to estimates of consultancy Oil World. The total production in Argentina is estimated at 47.6 million metric tons. The six biggest processing countries, including India, have a share of 73% of the total volume of 438 million metric tons milled in the world currently.
According to Júlio Calzada, Chief Economist at the Rosario Board of Trade, the number is not a causality. “Among all oilseeds processed in the world, 63% is soybeans, followed by colza and sunflower. Therefore, a processing of 44.5 million metric tons could make Argentina pass from fourth to third position,” explained Calzada.
During the 2012/2013, about three years ago, Argentina was behind China, United States, Brazil and European Union, holding the fifth position on processing oilseeds. “Confirming the Oil World forecast, the country will during nearly 46.7 million metric of oilseeds, overcoming Brazil and the European Union, respectively, with 47 and 43 million metric tons,” summarizes Calzada.
