Brazil approves Dow's 2,4-D herbicide-resistant soybeans‏
Date:04-17-2015
In a recently meeting, Brazil's National Technical Commission of Biossecurity (CTNBio) approved a genetically modified soybean variety that was developed by Dow Agrosciences to resist to the 2,4D herbicide.
This transgenic soybeans also offers tolerance to ammonium glufosinate (event DAS-44406-6), among other active ingredients. Dow Agrosciences applied for the approval on January 13, 2011.
The release provokes controversy in Brazil because the Federal Public Ministry moves a lawsuit to ban the herbicide 2,4-D in the country. The attorney already has requested a new evaluation about this agrochemical - and yet it did not occur. The Ministry attempted to legally impede the Commission of making new releases - later vetoed by the Brazilian Justice.
