The McGregor Co. closes Smith-Kem acquisition

The McGregor Co. has completed the acquisition of Smith-Kem, Inc. Smith-Kem is based in the heart of the Kittitas Valley region of Washington State. The valley is one of the most productive forage raising areas in the U.S. Crops raised are primarily timothy hay and other rotational crops.
Both The McGregor Co. and Smith-Kem were founded in 1948 and have a very long history of family ownership, and a commitment to providing top quality agricultural inputs, and service, to growers. “We are excited to bring the Smith-Kem team onboard. We have a long relationship and a great respect for the way Smith-Kem has operated, and grown their business over the years” says Ian McGregor, Vice President of The McGregor Co.

Our business is one that is built on trust, and we know The McGregor Co. will continue that.” said Andy Erickson, Vice President of Smith-Kem. “All employees of Smith-Kem will continue with the business. Customers will continue to work with the long term sales and service teams they have come to rely on from Smith-Kem.”
Smith-Kem will be a significant addition to the Columbia Basin Division of The McGregor Co.. That division provides inputs, consulting services and application expertise on over 50 different irrigated crops, from row crops, to vineyards and orchards. “We’re excited to add another location to this growing part of our business”, said Jex Biorn, General Manager of the Columbia Basin Division.
