Valent’s fungicide Presidio® Registered for Use on Tobacco
Date:02-04-2015
Valent U.S.A. Corporation announced that Presidio® Fungicide (fluopicolide) has been registered by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for use on tobacco. This new label use provides tobacco growers with a valuable new tool for controlling two tough diseases, blank shank and blue mold.
Presidio delivers excellent protection against fast-moving black shank in flue-cured, burley, dark and cigar tobacco. Presidio research trials show consistent preventive control of black shank and protection of yield potential.
Plus, Presidio arms tobacco growers with a novel mode of action (sole member of FRAC Group 43) that’s an effective tool for resistance management.
"Presidio offers a flexible new chemistry for black shank control," said Kenneth Seebold, product development manager for Valent. "Fluopicolide, the active ingredient in Presidio, is highly active in the soil. Presidio has demonstrated outstanding results when applied at planting in the transplant water and in rotation programs at first cultivation or layby."
Research data has also shown that Presidio is an effective treatment for blue mold, including mefenoxam-resistant strains of the pathogen.
The new tobacco registration is an expansion of the existing Presidio label, which includes cucurbits, fruiting vegetables, brassica, leafy vegetables, root and tuber vegetables (except potatoes) and grapes.
