Phytosanitary emergency is extended in PiauĂ, Brazil

A phytosanitary emergency status was extended for over a year and a half in the Brazilian state of Piauí due to corn earworm (Helicoverpa armigera) infestations. The measure, already published at the Official Gazette, was authorized by the new Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply, Kátia Abreu, attending a request from that Northeastern state and local farm associations.
The guidelines and measures to be adopted were provided by ordinance no. 1,109. The document allows under temporary and emergent basis the imports of agrochemicals that have emamectin benzoate as an active ingredient to control the pest.
The municipalities of Piauí which had delimited areas by the action of the caterpillar were: Alvorada do Gurguéia, Antônio Almeida, Baixa Grande do Ribeiro, Barreiras do Piauí, Bom Jesus, Corrente, Cristalândia do Piauí, Currais, Gilbués, Guadalupe, Jerumenha, Landri Sales, Marcos Parente, Monte Alegre do Piauí, Palmeira do Piauí, Piracuruca, Porto Alegre do Piauí, Regeneração, Redenção do Gurguéia, Ribeiro Gonçalves, Santa Filomena, São Gonçalo do Gurguéia, Sebastião Barros, Sebastião Leal and Uruçui.
