FSANZ to approve Monsanto's GM corn MON87411
Date:12-16-2014
Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) called for submissions on an application to permit food derived from Monsanto’s genetically modified corn MON87411. The corn had been modified to be tolerant to the herbicide glyphosate and to be protected against western corn rootworm. FSANZ received this application from Monsanto in July this year.
FSANZ has done a safety assessment on the application and no public health and safety concerns have been identified. Based on the data provided and other available information, FSANZ concluded that food derived from this corn is considered to be as safe for human consumption as food from conventional corn cultivars.
The closing date for submissions is 10 February 2015.
