BASF and Irga sign technical agreement
Date:09-29-2014
BASF and the Rio Grande do Sul Institute of Rice (Irga) from Brazil announced a technical agreement for research, development and diffusion of technologies related to rice production. According to the companies, the two institutions resume an old partnership
The intention of earlier collaboration was to combat Red rice weed that affects about 70% of the rice areas in Rio Grande do Sul, as reported by BASF. According Clairton Silva, Sales Director of BASF Crop Protection, Red rice is a major weed of rice fields that limited the crop yield potential.
"Importantly, BASF and Irga are working together to develop new technologies, new products and new varieties that ensure the sustainability of rice production in the medium and long term. It is fundamental to use certified seeds and recommended products that registered for the rice crop, which will ensure the quality of rice that reaches to consumers, " said, Silva.
