Arysta LifeScience Registers KASUMINĀ® Bactericide in US
Date:09-12-2014
Arysta LifeScience North America recently announced the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) registration of KASUMIN® Bactericide. KASUMIN offers a unique mode of action with a high level of preventive activity, making it active on a wide array of plant pathogenic bacteria.
KASUMIN is now registered in the United States for use in pome fruit (apples and pears) for control of fire blight, including streptomycin-resistant strains. Kasugamycin, the unique active ingredient in KASUMIN, makes it an effective preventative disease management tool for fruit growers.
"In bringing KASUMIN to the U.S. market, Arysta LifeScience has given growers a new, effective way to help manage fire blight," said Carmen Holding, Tree, Nut & Vine Marketing Manager, Arysta LifeScience. "With a new mode of action to control fire blight, KASUMIN is a great tool to help control this destructive disease."
"Resistance is a serious concern among growers,” added Holding. “Bacterial diseases can be economically devastating to the long-term viability of a grower’s operation if not effectively managed and growers currently have a limited number of control options. KASUMIN targets a different site of action from other bactericides and gives growers a new tool to control bacterial diseases – including resistant strains – to protect fruit tree health and yields."
KASUMIN is available as a liquid formulation, and field testing has shown it can be easily tank-mixed with other fungicides to increase the spectrum of disease control.
"The threat of fire blight infection is always present on apples and pears, although it fluctuates due to weather and other factors," Holding concluded. "KASUMIN is very effective against fire blight and will be an excellent integrated pest management tool in managing resistance."
