Paraguay launches project to reduce pesticide related risks

The Service of National Quality, Plant Health and Seeds (SENAVE) and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), initiated a project named “Risk Reduction of Highly Hazardous Pesticides in Paraguay”.

 

The project seeks to reduce the risk of highly toxic pesticides through specific tools and human resources in the matter, which will ultimately contribute to the development of sustainable agriculture in Paraguay.

 

The project will take place over the course of two years, during which experts expect to obtain a situational analysis of highly toxic pesticides and its economic impact; a risk reduction plan designed and implemented on a pilot basis and a more informed and sensitized population.

 

Besides SENAVE and FAO, other parties will be involved in the project. Such are the cases of Paraguay’s Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Environment, the General Directorate of Health, farmers, sector companies and NGOs.
