Monsanto seeks Australasia approval for SmartStax Pro

Monsanto has applied to Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) for the approval of food derived from its herbicide-tolerant and Insect-protected corn line SmartStax Pro (MON87411). It is genetically modified glyphosate-tolerant and corn rootworm-protected, which expresses six insect-control proteins (Cry1A.105, Cry2Ab2, Cry1F, Cry3Bb1, and the binary proteins Cry34Ab1 and Cry35Ab1), are all obtained from the soil bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt). The company already obtained approval from EU and US for food and feed. FSANZ anticipates to finish the assessment by May 2015.
