Brazilian farmers increase 75% spraying actions due to Boll weevil

The Boll weevil was considered the main pest in the 2013/2014 crop season in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. The evaluation was confirmed by cotton growers in a meeting with experts promoted by the Association of Cotton Growers of Mato Grosso do Sul.
"The situation of the Boll weevil in the state also generates today a big worry for cotton growers, the number of spraying increased on average 75%, jumping from 12 to 21 specific spraying", pointed out the publication.
Cotton farmers have also increased the number of agrochemicals applications to fight Helicoverpa armigera. In the region of Chapadões (in the municipalities of Chapadão do Sul and Costa Rica), the number of applications of agrochemicals on average jumped from 16 in the last crop to 20 in the 2013/2014 crop season.
