EFSA refuses France emergency measure on MON 810
Date:08-08-2014
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has rejected emergency measure notified by France on prohibiting cultivation of Monsanto’s GM maize MON 810. EFSA stated that neither the scientific publications cited in the documentation from France nor the arguments put forward reveal any new information that would invalidate the previous risk assessment conclusions and risk management recommendations made by the EFSA GMO Panel. Therefore, EFSA concludes there is no specific scientific evidence would support emergency measure on MON 810 cultivation notified by France.
In March 2014, France's agriculture ministry banned the sale, use and cultivation of MON 810. Several EU Member States also has invoked safeguard clause or emergency measures to provisionally restrict or prohibit the marketing of maize MON 810 on their territory, including Greece.
