Brazil to import DuPont's Cyazypyrâ„¢ for coffee borer beetle
Date:08-08-2014
Brazil Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply authorized the imports of DuPont's Cyazypyr™ insecticide for the emergency control of coffee borer beetle (Hypothenemus hampei) in the state of Minas Gerais.
With low toxicity, Cyazypyr™(cyantraniliprole) has already been registered in US, EU, Canada, China and Japan, and it is also authorized by the World Health Organization and FAO. DuPont expects its registration in Brazil by the end of 2014.
Rodrigo Figueiredo, secretary of Crop Protectio, sees the approval as a chance to reduce the risks of the borer beetle in the next crop seasons. "We cannot allow the appearance of borer beetle plague in Brazil and, therefore, this emergency measure was adopted" said Figueiredo.
The management of the coffee borer beetle was defined through the ordinance 711, published in the Union's Official Gazzette. The norm establishes that "the control should only take place when the infestation reaches 3% or more".
