DuPont Pioneer introduces new sunflower product for 2014
Date:04-28-2014
Sunflower growers have a new planting option this spring as DuPont Pioneer introduces Pioneer® brand hybrid P64ME01. This sunflower is a mid-oleic, mid-maturity, disease-tolerant hybrid with outstanding yield potential bred for the NuSun® oil market.
Pioneer hybrid P64ME01 is a sunflower hybrid with the DuPont™ ExpressSun® trait for tolerance to DuPont EXPRESS® herbicide with TotalSol® soluble granules.
Pioneer P64ME01 joins a lineup of high-oleic and mid-oleic oil profile sunflowers. The NuSun and ExpressSun traits were developed using traditional plant-breeding methods, and therefore these sunflowers are conventional non-GMO varieties.
P64ME01 sunflower has above-average neck strength and responds to intensively managed growing environments. High yield potential makes P64ME01 a good fit for growers who want to experiment with supplemental micronutrient packages. The new hybrid is adapted to the central sunflower growing region of the Dakotas. Pioneer® brand sunflowers include seed treatment to protect against Pythium and nonresistant strains of downy mildew.
NuSun sunflower mid-oleic sunflower oil is stable without partial hydrogenation. It outshines other oils for commercial use by providing optimal healthy benefits, great taste, and superior performance, while remaining 0 gram trans fat. It is lower in saturated fat (less than 10%) compared with linoleic sunflower oil, and it has higher oleic levels (55% to 75%), with the remainder being linoleic (15% to35%).
