Cheminova's Dimethoate 4E insecticide receives 2(ee) recommendation in Texas
Date:04-24-2014
Cheminova recently announced the Texas Department of Agriculture has granted a specific recommendation in accordance with Section 2(ee) of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act for the use of Cheminova Dimethoate 4E Insecticide to control sugarcane aphids in grain sorghum. This comes after the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, revealed this pest caused some growers to lose up to 50 percent of grain sorghum yield in infested fields during 2013.
"In a controlled study last year, Dr. M.O. Way, a researcher with Texas A&M AgriLife Research Service, treated sorghum with Cheminova Dimethoate 4E and it decreased aphid numbers from 100 per leaf to 3 per leaf within the first 4 days after application," said Ken Smith, Technical Manager, Cheminova. "Given how severe recent infestations of sugarcane aphids have been, it is opportune that our product has received a 2(ee) so growers can use it to manage this troublesome pest."
Cheminova Dimethoate 4E can be applied to foliage for the control of sugarcane aphid at a rate of 1 pint per acre. Its approval for this use is effective immediately and expires on December 31, 2015. Anyone applying Dimethoate 4E for sugarcane aphid must have copy of the Cheminova Dimethoate Section 2(ee) Recommendation label on hand during application.
