FSANZ to approve Dow's GM cotton food use
Date:03-21-2014
Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) recently invited submissions on an application to permit food derived from a genetically modified cotton line. The Public comments will be closed on 29 April 2014.
The application, from Dow AgroSciences Australia, sought approval for food derived from a herbicide-tolerant cotton line, which has been genetically modified to tolerate the herbicides 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and glufosinate ammonium.
“Our safety assessment found no public health or safety concerns, and concluded that food derived from this cotton line is as safe for human consumption as food derived from conventional cotton cultivars,” said Mr McCutcheon, FSANZ Chief Executive Officer.
