China approves Jiangsu Changlong's herbicide propachlor technical
Date:02-28-2014
Jiangsu Changlong chemicals has been granted Chinese registration for its herbicide 96% propachlor technical and 50% propachlor WP from Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA).
As per Chinese Pesticide Registration Watch, Jiangsu Changlong is the first company approved for propachlor technical in China.
Propachlor is a selective herbicide used pre-emergence, pre-planting or early post-emergence to control annual grasses and some broad-leaved weeds in multiple crops including beans, brassicas, cotton, sorghum, maize, ornamental trees. It is absorbed mainly through germinating seedling shoots and partially via roots, with translocation throughout the plant. The molecular mechanism is unknown but some study shows it inhibits cell division by blocking protein synthesis.
Propachlor is developed by Monsanto. The main manufacture is ÉMV and Makhteshim. Without re-registration in the EU, the product is gradually phasing out from the market and its 2011 global sales was less than $ 10 million.
