EU approves three new ais

The European Commission has announced to approve three new active ingredients under the EU plant protection regulation (1107/2009).They are: Dow AgroSciences’ herbicide, pyroxsulam; Bayer CropScience’s insecticide, spirotetramat and DuPont's insecticide, chlorantraniliprole. They will be formally included in Annex I on May 1, 2014 and will expire on April 30, 2024.
For the pyroxsulam, the Commission requires that member states shall pay particular attention to the risk to groundwater, when the active substance is applied in regions with vulnerable soil or climatic conditions; the risk to aquatic organisms. For the spirotetramat, member states should pay particular attention to the risk to insectivorous birds. For the chlorantraniliprole, member states shall pay particular attention to the risk to aquatic organisms and to soil macroorganisms.
Dow submitted its application for pyroxsulam in 2006 to the UK as rapporteur member state. Bayer and DuPont applied for spirotetramat in 2006 and chlorantraniliprole in 2007 to Austria and Ireland, respectively.
