China developed wheat-protective novel biopesticide

An environment-friendly wheat pest-targeted insecticide / fungicide has been successfully developed by Sun Qishan, a China’s senior agronomist; also a national patent has been obtained for the research achievement.
The research enables extraction of the main ingredient of garlic – ethylicin, which is added with small amount of environment-friendly insecticide or fungicide to form an aqueous emulsion, being regarded as a novel pesticide especially suitable for use in the growth of wheat particularly in the mid and later stage of growth during which aphids, redspiders, wheat sawfly and army worm are killed; the product can also be applied to powdery mildew, rust disease, leaf blight and sheath blight, as well as being used to reduce later-stage death of strain caused by ophiobolus and brown foot rot. The formula is derived based on sophora and garlic extractions, therefore being referred to as “biologically originated environment-friendly wheat pest insecticide”, which is free of toxicity with a broad spectrum pest killing effect.
Industry experts said that the novel pesticide, if used in a right way in the wheat field will not only effectively control pest but can also avoid excessive killing of natural enemies of pest.
