Brazilian retained smuggled pesticides

Approximately three tons of pesticides, without registration in Brazil, were seized in a joint operation between IBAMA and the Brazilian Army, in Rosario do Sul, Sao Gabriel and Lavras do Sul. The most part was in a farm that planted 250 acres of rice. The crop was choked with the suspension of agricultural activity and got a R$ 2 million fine. The Federal Police has also been communicated to start criminal investigation.
The products were insecticides, fungicides and herbicides with different active ingredients, manufactured in China, Uruguay and other countries. These smuggled pesticides that entered the country expose the environment and people to many different risks. They have so environmental security guarantee neither for health nor for agricultural efficiency.
Another infraction was often caught was the inadequate allocation of used packaging. The pesticide containers must be returned to the dealer obligatory. Six grain producing farms were fined for not giving proper destination to hundreds of packages.
The seized goods were taken to a safe deposit in the Brazilian Army facility in Rosario do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul which they will wait to be destroyed , the only environmentally adequate disposal. Other infractions are still being analyzed and monitoring will continue for indefinitely.
