Indian seed companies ink deal with state agri university

As many as 36 private Indian seed companies from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh recently signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU) to obtain rights for producing and marketing seed of its recently developed yellow disease resistant wheat variety WH-1105.
Under the MoUs signed to this effect between the representatives of the seed companies and the CCSHAU director of research SS Siwach, non-exclusive licenses have been granted by the university to these companies.
Earlier, on September 28, 38 companies had signed MoUs for WH-1105 variety of wheat with the university.
Speaking on the occasion, Siwach urged the companies to maintain quality of seed of this variety to benefit farmers. He said that one more variety of wheat WH-1124 had also been identified for cultivation and from next year its breeder seed would be made available to the seed companies.
On the occasion, an exhibition of technologies identified for commercialisation by the university was also put up.
