Date:09-13-2013
Syngenta Canada announced that it will introduce S00-N6* and S007-Y4 Genuity® Roundup Ready 2 Yield® (GENRR2Y) soybeans, two new varieties available to Manitoba soybean growers for the 2014 planting season. Together with S00-B7 and S00-T9, these new varieties expand the Syngenta soybean offer in Manitoba to four varieties. All four varieties incorporate a diverse and unique set of genes to help reduce the potential for disease outbreaks and give plants the ability to adapt to changing growing environments.
“Syngenta has access to one of the largest global genetic pools in the industry. As a result, the soybean varieties we bring to market will help growers reach the consistent, sustainable level of yield needed to benefit from the sizable opportunity associated with growing soybean production in Western Canada,” stated Duane Johnson, Head, Western Commercial Business Unit, Syngenta Canada. “A diverse genetic base isn’t just about delivering outstanding yield; it’s also about consistent performance and reducing risk – all attributes that soybean growers desire.”
S00-N6* is a high-yielding variety targeted to the earliest soybean growing areas in the 2400 CHU region. It offers very good emergence to enable quick stand establishment and easy harvesting. This strong standing variety responds well to narrow rows. *S00-N6 is pending registration.
S007-Y4 is a broadly adapted variety with high yield performance. This early maturing, 2425 CHU soybean offers growers dependable emergence, Phytophthora root rot field tolerance, includes the Rps1c gene for resistance to races 1–3, 6–11, 13, 15, 17, 21, 23, 24 and 25, and boasts superb standability for easy harvesting.
These two new varieties complement existing varieties S00-B7 and S00-T9. S00-B7 is an early-maturity variety that is widely adapted across Manitoba, offering strong performance, especially in narrow rows. A tall, vigorous plant type, S00-B7 offers growers a strong agronomic package and is best suited for the 2425 CHU maturity zone.
S00-T9 is a high-yielding, 2500 CHU variety well suited to all Manitoba soil types. A medium-tall, high-performing plant type, S00-T9 offers above-average standability as well as very good Phytophthora field tolerance and includes the Rps1k gene for resistance to races 1–11,13–15, 17,18, 21, 22, 24 and 26.
