Cereals 2013 delivers for arable industry

Over the last two days many thousands of visitors have flocked to Cereals 2013, held in Booth by Graffoe, Lincolnshire.

Farm minister David Heath said there was considerable optimism for what was happening in agriculture. With good land and good techniques at their disposal, UK farmers stood to benefit from the need to feed more people here and across the world.

Allan Wilkinson, head of agriculture at HSBC, the principal sponsor of the Cereals event, launched the bank’s latest Taking the Pulse document, which showed the effects of the weather in budget forecasts.

Nearly 100 crop plots demonstrated the latest varieties, agchem products and agronomy techniques to visitors hungry for methods to increase yield and save costs.

Farm leaders have rejected the £30.67/t base price for sugar beet announced by British Sugar at Cereals.

A series of  four Technical Seminars, new for 2013, attracted high quality audiences seeking answers for next season and beyond.

Several new machinery models were launched at the event, alongside updates to existing models and the chance to see working demonstrations of tractors, cultivation kit and sprayers.

The event’s Sprays & Sprayers area and live demonstration arena supported by Syngenta hosted an impressive display of the latest equipment and innovation from over 40 exhibitors.

In a live auction of a special edition Case IH Magnum tractor attended by 900 visitors, Case IH raised over £26,000 for Prince's Countryside Fund, who pass on funds to several charities, one of which includes RABI.
