Deutsche Welle, a German broadcaster, points out that Brazil is one of the countries that uses less (6th place) technology per ton of produced food.
When considering investment in dollars per ton of produced food, Japan is the world’s leader in the use of pesticides, according to a study by the German consulting group Kleffmann, commissioned by the Brazilian Agribusiness Association (ABAG). Brazil ranked 6th in the survey conducted in 2009.
According to ANVISA, responsible for analyzing the use of pesticides and grant registration in Brazil, along with the Departament of Agriculture and IBAMA, the levels of pesticide residues in foods consumed in Brazil are not exactly high. Despite this fact, to the entity the levels of irregularities found are high.
The Analysis Program of Pesticide Residues in Food pointed out the use of unauthorized substances in food cultures as the main irregularity observed. The ineffective control of the pesticides levels of pesticides in retail is a major contributor to this situation, combined with other factors, according to the entity, such as the low level of awareness of some producers.
