Minister of Agriculture of the Philippines Alcala has announced on the First National Conference on Hybrid Rice, the next two will be allocated 500 million pesos earmarked for the promotion of hybrid rice, efforts to make coverage of hybrid rice in the Philippines from the current 3.5% to 8% to 10%, in order to achieve the goal of rice self-sufficiency.
Alcala said farmers according to their farms, irrigation, capital position and level of science and technology decided to plant hybrid rice or conventional rice. Government to encourage farmers to plant hybrid rice, while encouraging state-owned and private hybrid rice seed companies involved in the project to ensure timely for the species. To achieve the objectives of the 10-5 in the promotion of hybrid rice yield per hectare to 10 tons per kilogram of rice costs only 5 pesos.
