Jiangsu Dongbao licensed to produce a patented bio-herbicide

Recently Jiangsu Dongbao Pesticide Chemical Ltd (Jiangsu Dongbao), a Chinese pesticide producer, entered into an agreement with Nanjing Agricultural University (University) for an exclusive production rights of the University’s patented “GermKQ” herbicide in the region of east China at a payment of patent royalty of Yuan 8.00 million.

It is reported that the “GermKQ” is a biological herbicide produced based on fungal strain fermentation, for which the University has developed for 8 years through biological study, process research and application experiment. The product is made by biological fermentation using crop straw and bran residual wastes; it can be further fermented via organic matter like returned straw after being applied to the field. “This invention is a significant technical breakthrough in respect of raw material, production process and environmental suitability.“ The University introduced.

Moreover the product has the effect of straw ripening and organic matter increasing, which can digest the straw leftovers after cropping, thus being of a benefit to waste reutilization and reduction of straw burning. The product can be widely used for corn, dry rice direct seeding, machine transplanted seedling, dry ice farm field and green field as well as for weed control in the land as required, offering very promising future prospects.

Nanjing Agricultural University has been working on herbicide research for over 10 years, and has obtained more than 10 patented inventions (inclusive of national patent and Japanese licensed patent); so far the University has developed 3 novel biological herbicides which are of commercialization value. Jiangsu Dongbao is one of the top 10 formulation product enterprise in China, with formulation product sales volume reaching Yuan 210 million in 2011.
