The UK Chemicals Regulation Directorate (CRD) has announced to approve the Emergency authorisation of asulam, which was welcomed by the members of the Bracken Control Group (BCG).
The authorisation should allow land managers to use the banned herbicide when the bracken spraying season begins in June.
The product was banned across the EU in September 2011 due to concerns over its use on spinach and was in a use-up period which expired on December 31, 2012.
Since then campaign groups have been lobbying for a derogation which would allow continued use of the chemical on non-food crops.
