The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has proposed to approve a new insecticide flonicamid from Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha Ltd (“ISK”).
Flonicamid is a pyridinecarboxamide compound, with novel systemic insecticidal properties. It has selective activity against hemipterous pests, such as aphids and whiteflies, and thysanopterous pests and is under development as a foliar, selective aphicide. Flonicamid is developed by Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha in 2000 and then launched into the market in Japan, South Korea, USA, Brazil and some European countries.
APVMA will accept public comment on this decision before February 26th, 2013.
