AgroPages-EU phased out biocide bifenthrin-Agricultural news

According to an assessment released in May 2012 that demonstrated that biocidal products containing bifenthrin cannot be expected to satisfy the requirements laid down in EU biocidal Directive 98/8/EC, the European Commission has decided to phase out bifenthrin for used for use as an insecticide/acaricide (product type 18) from 1 May 2013. The scenarios evaluated in the environmental risk assessment showed an unacceptable risk for the aquatic compartment by using bifenthrin. EU has just approved bifenthrin as a wood preservative in February 2011.
