Syngenta announced that it plans to invest $5 million to upgrade its research station located in Aracati in the state of Ceará, Brazil. Syngenta said that the investments will be, for the most part, used for the establishment of the infrastructure of the station, such as to purchase construction equipment, greenhouses, sheds and cooling chambers, besides, to expand the administrative area.
The research station launched seven years ago, covering an area of 50 hectares, at present, the station mainly focused on research experiment covering soybean, maize, sugarcane and fruit such as watermelon and cantaloupe. The station is considered as one of the most important research center in Latin America for the company, and the choice of the area was made by the excellent climate and geographical conditions of the region. In Aracati, sunny days are longer, features that enables up to three generations a year and a half (in general, there are two in other locations), which brings a huge contribution to the breeding programs of the company's plants.
