Recently the Chinese Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals of Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA) granted Jiangsu Zhongdan Group Co., Ltd the temporary registration for one year of herbicide pentoxazone (96.5% TC), becoming effective from 30 August 2012. So far Jiangsu Zhongdan Group Co., Ltd is the only chemical enterprise granted such a pentoxazone technical registration.

Pentoxazone is a novel oxazolidinedione herbicide, being used for rice as pre-emergence and post-emergence herbicide under low concentration for control of annual weed like barnyard grass. The herbicide kills a wide spectrum of weed with a long-lasting effect, being safe and environment friendly. It is invented by Sagami Chemical Research Center and developed by Kaken Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd, having been registered in Japan in 1997 in the commodity name of Wechser used for rice and later extended to mixture with sulfonylurea herbicides.
