As a contact fungicide, folpet acts against many important leaf diseases of cereals and fruit by binding to Sulphur-hydrogen bonds and thus interfering with the respiratory process in fungi.
Folpet belongs to the class of phthalimide fungicides such as captan or captafol, with a broad-spectrum of activity including both powdery and downy mildew as well as scab, Botrytis and leaf spots. The main crop outlets are on vines and fruit and vegetables.
China Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals of the Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA) has recently granted a temporary registration approval for the active ingredient of fungicide folpet to Chinese agrochemical company YIngde Greatchem. As per the official report, Yingde Greatchem is the only company which is granted the registration approval for the product.
