Indian agrochemical company United Phosphorus Limited (UPL) has recently gained the approval for its active ingredient of thiamethoxam in Australia, becoming the second company in the country with the registration of the product. Syngenta has achieved the registration of 21 thiamethoxam products in Australia, including 14 formulations used for cotton, maize, sunflower and many other crops.

The sales of thiamethoxam reached $905 million in 2010, ranking the second in the global sales of insecticides (Imidacloprid ranked the first with the sales of $980 million). As one of the important strategic products of Syngenta, thiamethoxam has been registered in over fifty countries and on more than 150 crops, particularly as seed treatment.
