China’s Ministry of Information and Technology (MIIT) announced that China has established a specialist advisory committee to promote the United Nations’ Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). The committee is committed to giving expert advice and suggestions to the country’s enactment and adjustment of China GHS-related legislations. The committee will also provide technical supports for evaluating GHS progress on annual basis, conducting publicity education training and tracking study and development trend of global GHS. The establishment of this committee will benefit China with GHS promotion by enhancing researches on major issues of GHS and improving scientific decision.
GHS, which is created by the United Nations, aims to ensure that information on the hazardous properties of chemicals is available throughout the world in order to enhance the protection of human health and the environment during the handling, transport and use of chemicals.
