Valent Launches Mosquito Growth Regulator for Use in Public Health

Valent BioSciences Corporation (VBC) announced the official launch of their latest biorational larvicide MetaLarv^TM S-PT Mosquito Growth Regulator for use in professional mosquito abatement programs in the U.S. MetaLarv S-PT features Triple Release Technology^TM an advanced formulation that provides several key improvements over current (S)-methoprene products. The product received registration approval from U.S. EPA in November, 2011.

Biorationals are products derived from natural or biological origins that are highly specific in their activity and have low impact on workers and the environment. MetaLarv S-PT contains the active ingredient (S)-methoprene, an insect juvenile hormone analog that prevents the development of mosquito larvae into the adult mosquito stage where certain species may be capable of transmitting harmful disease such as West Nile virus, malaria, dengue fever, and encephalitis.

Unveiled at the recent American Mosquito Control Association meeting in Austin, Texas, MetaLarv S-PT was developed in collaboration with the mosquito abatement community to create a pre-flood, residual product that reduces operational costs while improving on many of the issues faced with (S)-methoprene products today. MetaLarv S-PTs unique spherical, dust-free pellet design works in combination with Triple Release Technology to allow product to be applied both pre-flood and directly into water, at more effective low-rate applications, improved aerial application swaths and better point-source coverage.

MetaLarv S-PT joins VBCs biorational mosquito larvicides VectoBac, VectoMax, VectoLex, and Teknar Biological Larvicides to provide the public health industrys most comprehensive range of target-specific, biorational larvicides for mosquito abatement professionals and health care officials around the globe.
