The 13th China International Agrochemical and Crop Protection Exhibition and the 3rd China International Fertilizer Show (CAC 2012), the world’s largest agrochemical exhibition, closed on 8th March, 2012 in Shanghai. Over 700 exhibiting companies from 20 countries and regions, as well as numerous visitors, have made the 34,000 square meter – show floors a feast of industry players, introduced by Ms. Ma Chunyan, the Deputy Secretary-General from the organizer - CCPIT Sub-council of Chemical Industry. With 13 years’ growth, CAC has become the largest, most professional agrochemical exhibitions, providing an active platform for communication and interaction for industry people.
A series of conferences have been held along with the exhibition since 4th March. The “6th China International Forum on the Development of Pesticide Industry” focused on market opportunities and trend of China pesticide industry in the transition period. Some government officials from Industries Department of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA) and China Crop Protection Industry Association (CCPIA) have interpreted the development police of pesticide in the 12th five-year-plan period, analyzed the features of importing and exporting for China pesticide in 2011 and estimated its trend in 2012.
Industry experts from all over the world also shared their viewpoints in this conference. Dr. Matthew Phillips from Phillips McDougall, the leading consultant company, highlighted the major driving factors of 2012 global agrochemical market’s development. The pesticide registration policies in different countries and regions have been introduced by some experts from France, Ukraine, South America and Australia. Expanding US market is always of great interests to Chinese pesticide players, but registering in the US and establishing of sale channels are still the biggest bottlenecks for entrance of the US market. “It will be an effective method to form some Chinese pesticide enterprises alliances and collaborate with local leading crop protection companies or associations, like Independent Agribusiness Professionals (IAP) for developing the US pesticide market.” pointed out by Dr. Ma Guangming, Senior Pesticide Review Scientist from California Environmental Protection Agency Department of Pesticide Regulation.
The other conference “4th World Academic Meeting for the Development of Pesticide Technologies & Applications”, held on 6th March, also attracted much attention. Experts and scholars from research institute and famous universities gave various speeches with their experiences on the general situation, research and application of herbicides in China.
"2012 China International Pesticide Safety Management Seminar” has discussed environment policy and safety management requirement of pesticide industry. What is worth mentioning, “1st China Bio-pesticide Forum” was held firstly in CAC, bio-pesticide industry is gradually paid more attention by Chinese government in recent years, and how to develop Chinese bio-pesticide industry became hot topic in the forum. More than one speaker was calling for that government should give more support for promoting the growth of Chinese bio-pesticide industry.
This year marks the 2nd year in China’s 12th Five-Year (2011-2015), and the country’s five-year plan for agrochemical industry was released earlier this year. A round of acquisition and merger activities of companies has begun in China. And the government also stressed that environment policy on pesticide industry is becoming ever tighter. It will be an important transformation period for Chinese agrochemical industry. The organizer says, CAC will keep up close with industry’s developing pace, provide exhibitors with more deliberate service and stable platform always.
