US EPA has authorized a specific exemption for the use of fungicide cyazofamid on basil for control of downy mildew (Peronospora balbahrii) in Illinois after reviewing the exemption request from the Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDA). EPA, on its own initiative, is establishing time-limited tolerances for combined residues of cyazofamid.
The time-limited tolerances are established for residues of cyazofamid, and its metabolites and degradates in or on basil, fresh, at 12 ppm, and basil, dried, at 144 ppm. These tolerances expire on December 31, 2014.
The Codex Alimentarius Commission (Codex) has not established a MRL for cyazofamid on basil. (The Codex Alimentarius is a joint U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization/World Health Organization food standards program, and it is recognized as an international food safety standards-setting organization in trade agreements to which the United States is a party.)
