Syngenta announced it will name its next-generation corn rootworm trait Agrisure Duracade. The proprietary technology features a novel mode of action against corn rootworm that is different from the company’s existing Agrisure RW trait.

The Agrisure Duracade trait expresses a unique protein (eCry3.1Ab) that binds differently in the gut of target insects that, once fully deregulated, will allow products with the Agrisure Duracade trait to manage the resistance of corn rootworm with dual modes of action against the highly destructive pest.

"The Agrisure Duracade next-generation corn rootworm trait represents an important milestone in our goal of delivering highly effective and convenient seed solutions for growers,” said David Morgan, president of Syngenta Seeds, Inc. “Stacking dual modes of action for the control of destructive insects like corn rootworm will allow us to create reduced refuge offerings that will help growers maximize yields while also helping to prevent the development of resistant insects in their fields."

Syngenta petitioned for the deregulation of Agrisure Duracade technology, also known as Event 5307, in December of 2010. Pending receipt of all necessary regulatory approvals, Agrisure Duracade trait technology is anticipated to be available in products as early as 2014.
