Sales of pesticides in Brazil exceeded $6.03 billion in the first eight months of this year, up 7% over the same period of 2010, said the national agrochemical industry trade association, the Sindag. Before main crops planting of the country, in August, pesticide sales increased by 16% to $1.61 billion compared with the same period last year.
Sales of herbicide grew by 2% to about $2.1 billion in the first eight months of 2011, remaining the largest category. Insecticide sales reached to $1.98 billion, up by 22%. Fungicide sales fell 6% to $1.51 billion. Sindag estimated agrochemical sales in Brazil in 2011 will reach $8.0 billion, against $7.3 billion last year.
