Qi Biodesign has officially joined the project titled ″To develop one-line hybrid rice for Africa using genome editing″, a rice research and development project supported by the Gates Foundation. By leveraging its proprietary gene-editing technologies and genetic transformation capabilities, Qi Biodesign aims to develop innovative and superior rice traits, fulfilling its social responsibility to contribute to solutions for global food security.
Qi Biodesign specializes in developing cutting-edge, proprietary precision gene-editing technologies and creating exceptional biological traits and products. The company has established its SEEDIT™ Biotechnology and Trait Engineering Platform to support plant engineering. Qi Biodesign has independently developed efficient delivery and plant transformation systems for over 40 different species, especially capable of editing elite varieties for each crop. Through precise gene editing, the company has achieved remarkable breakthroughs in trait improvement across multiple crops, including soybeans, wheat, rice, and maize. Notably, Qi Biodesign has obtained five gene-editing safety certificates in China, covering high-oleic soybean, high-yielding soybean, powdery mildew-resistant wheat, herbicide-tolerant wheat, and quality-enhanced rice.
This collaboration represents not only a synergy of technical expertise but also a practical step toward realizing a shared vision for global food security. Qi Biodesign will provide comprehensive support to the project through its proprietary gene-editing technologies and genetic transformation platforms.
Qi Biodesign’s Dr. Bei Zhang, CEO, and Dr. Kevin Zhao, CTO, attended the project’s kickoff, highlighting the company’s strong commitment to this significant initiative.
