Pioneer, a seed brand of Corteva Agriscience, has announced the launch of the P30001PWUE, the first corn hybrid featuring PowerCore Ultra Enlist biotechnology. Targeted for the summer crop season in the Southern Region of Brazil, the manufacturer highlights that this product offers greater flexibility in managing hard-to-control weeds due to its tolerance to four herbicides: Enlist Colex-D (new 2,4-D choline salt), Glyphosate, Glufosinate, and Haloxyfop.

According to Pioneer, this technology enables more effective control of grasses, including those resistant to glyphosate, and allows for the rotation of modes of action, contributing to resistance management. Additionally, the hybrid provides protection against susceptible caterpillars that attack corn crops, making it a vital ally in Integrated Pest Management and in preserving the crop's productive potential.

"Pioneer, with a century of global operations and over 50 years in Brazil, is renowned for its superior genetics and for being the most technical brand in the market, consistently bringing innovations to producers. In light of the growing challenges in the field, the company presents another solution for controlling tolerant weeds, combining this innovation with the already established PowerCore Ultra technology for managing susceptible pests," highlights Rafael Seleme, leader of Pioneer for Brazil and Paraguay.

Seleme points out that in recent years, the emergence of herbicide-resistant weeds has made management increasingly challenging. He emphasizes that the market was seeking a technology that would provide more flexibility and efficiency in controlling these invaders. "As a brand that constantly innovates to deliver the best solutions to producers, Pioneer launches the P30001PWUE, a hybrid that combines the main technologies currently available," he adds.

Pioneer's launch is part of the Enlist System, now in its fourth season in Brazil with a focus on soybeans. According to Corteva, the technology offers producers more safety, flexibility, and freedom of choice in controlling weeds such as horseweed, milkweed, giant pigweed, dayflower, and morning glory, among others.

The system is built on the pillars of Seeds and Biotechnology, Herbicides, and High-Productivity Genetics, combined with Good Agricultural Practices, with tolerance to Enlist Colex-D herbicides (new 2,4-D choline salt), which is a new formulation with proven efficacy in controlling invaders, reducing drift potential by up to 90% when applied with air induction nozzles, ultra-low volatility, and reduced odour, and Verdict Max, a comprehensive graminicide that offers maximum efficiency with a lower product dose in controlling sourgrass, goosegrass, white grass, ryegrass, and other grasses.

The P30001PWUE, like all Pioneer hybrids, features LumiGEN Industrial Seed Treatment (IST), which includes products, technologies, and services such as fungicides, insecticides, bionematicides, and biostimulants. "These solutions provide protection, also favoring plant development during the early stages of the crop," says Pioneer.

Among its current key technologies are PowerCore Ultra, which contains four insecticidal proteins that aid in managing caterpillars that cause productive losses to the crop, and Optimum AQUAmax, which, through advanced genetic improvement techniques, offers greater tolerance to water stress during grain filling, pronounced stay-green, and high efficiency in soil water absorption.

Pioneer has led the summer and second-crop corn seed market in Brazil for two decades, according to Kynetec. "This recognition reflects producers' trust in the brand, which stands out for its tradition, cutting-edge technology, and specialised technical support from agronomy and commercial teams," concludes Seleme.
