CH-27 has gained popularity among growers due to its wider adaptability across different regions in India, making it a valuable addition to the commercial chilli seed market.
In a significant step towards promoting vegetable hybrid commercialisation, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Ashoka Farm Aids, a Bengaluru-based firm, for the commercial seed production of Chilli Hybrid CH-27. The agreement was formalised with Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt, Director of Research, PAU, and Mr. Jagdev Singh, General Manager, Ashoka Farm Aids, signing the pact on behalf of their respective organisations.
Acknowledging the success of CH-27, Dr. Dhatt congratulated Dr. Salesh Jindal, Senior Vegetable Breeder, Department of Vegetable Science, for the successful commercialisation of the hybrid. Dr Jindal highlighted that CH-27 is a high-yielding hybrid, featuring multiple resistances to leaf curl virus, fruit rot, and root-knot nematodes. The spreading plant structure ensures long-duration fruit-bearing, making it highly productive. The hybrid produces light green, long fruits with medium pungency, making it ideal for powder-making and processing applications.
Dr. Khushdeep Dharni, Associate Director, Technology Marketing, and IPR Cell, PAU, emphasized PAU’s commitment to expanding vegetable hybrid commercialization. He noted that CH-27 has gained popularity among growers due to its wider adaptability across different regions in India, making it a valuable addition to the commercial chilli seed market.
