Bionema Group, an established thought leader and developer of biocontrol technology, has unveiled an ambitious £566 million growth projection over the next 5–10 years. This projection reflects the company’s rapid expansion in biopesticides, biofertilisers, and biostimulants via its formulation technology platforms. This initiative aligns with the global shift toward sustainable agriculture, offering farmers natural alternatives to chemical pesticides and fertilisers to enhance crop health, yield, and soil regeneration.

Unlike conventional agricultural startups focusing on a single innovation or technology, Bionema is developing ten products, including bioinsecticides, biofungicides, bionematicides, and molluscicides. These products will use microencapsulated and WDG formulations to achieve a 20-40% increase in efficacy compared to traditional pesticides or biocontrol products.

Additionally, it is developing innovative biofilm-based biofertilisers worth £961,000, funded by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs’ Farming Innovation Programme Nutrient Management Competition. This project is part of Defra’s Farming Innovation Programme, delivered in partnership with Innovate UK, to reduce the use of synthetic fertiliser and achieve net zero.

Dr. Minshad Ansari, CEO and Founder of Bionema Group said. ″With increasing restrictions on chemical pesticides and the urgent need for sustainable farming solutions, our mission is clear: to equip farmers with cutting-edge biological technologies that are both effective and environmentally friendly.″

″We project that Bionema’s innovations will generate £566 million in value over the next 5–10 years by commercialising next-generation biopesticides and biofertilisers at scale.″

Innovative Business Model for Rapid Market Adoption
Bionema’s technology development and commercialisation model is designed to accelerate global market penetration through:
•    Licensing & Technology Transfer – Partnering with Tier 1 and 2 agrochemical companies to integrate Bionema’s biological solutions into global agricultural markets.
•    Strategic Divestment & Acquisitions – Selling or transferring key innovations to leading agribusinesses, maximising return on investment (ROI) of 5 to 10 times.
•    Global Market Expansion – Strengthening commercial partnerships in Europe, North America, Asia, and Africa to drive widespread adoption.

Cutting-Edge R&D and Proprietary Technologies
Bionema has a strong R&D foundation, leading to the development of multiple high-impact biological solutions, including five filed patents:
•    Entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) – Natural pest control targeting crop-damaging insects.
•    Beneficial fungi and bacteria – Enhancing plant defense mechanisms, improving soil microbiome health and controlling pests.
•    Biofilm-based biofertilisers – This project is funded by the Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs’ Farming Innovation Programme Nutrient Management Competition. ″This project is part of Defra’s Farming Innovation Programme delivered in partnership with Innovate UK
•    Microencapsulated and WDG (Water-Dispersible Granules) formulations – Controlled-release technology to increase product efficacy, surpassing conventional solutions available.
•    Carbon-reduction technology via systemic molluscicides – A breakthrough targeting a billion-dollar market for sustainable slug and snail control.
•    Marine Metabolites for controlling terrestrial pests and disease

Global Expansion and Regulatory Acceleration
Bionema is actively advancing regulatory approvals and commercialisation across multiple regions, driving growth through:
•    Scaling biopesticide and biofertiliser production to meet the rising global demand.
•    Accelerating regulatory approvals with EU, US, New Zealand, Australia, Latin America, and Asia authorities.
•    Building strategic industry partnerships to distribute Bionema’s next-generation biocontrol solutions at scale.

Bionema’s vision aligns with global sustainability goals, including the EU Green Deal’s Farm to Fork Strategy, which aims to reduce synthetic pesticide and fertiliser use by 50% by 2030.

Dr Ansari added: ″We are committed to making biological solutions the first choice for farmers globally. By leading the way in biopesticides and biofertilisers, we are shaping the future of sustainable agriculture″.

Stephen Ford Bionema's CTO said, "Our growth plan is ambitious; however, I cannot count how many times I've been told it can’t be done, only for us to discover a pathway forward. If there is one thing I know, standing still is equivalent to going backwards.″
