Recently, ICAMA of the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs announced approval of more than 300 novel pesticide registrations. Among them, China’s first registration of fungicide inpyrfluxam 96% TC (for export to Cambodia only) was granted to Hengning Biologicals, a subsidiary of Hailir Pesticides and Chemicals.
Inpyrfluxam is an SDHI fungicide developed by Sumitomo Chemical, which has become a focus of attention in the international pesticide market since its market launch in 2020 due to its unique chemical structure and efficient performance. The key benefits are:
Broad-spectrum and high efficiency: Inpyrfluxam interferes the complex II on the pathogenic mitochondrial respiratory chain to prevent mitochondrial function from producing energy, thus inhibiting the growth of pathogens, causing ultimately the death of pathogens. The product controls a variety of crop diseases such as rice sheath blight, Asian soybean rust, wheat leaf rust and apple scab. Its broad-spectrum enables farmers to tackle multiple diseases with a single product, which reduces the number and cost of pesticide applications.
Systemicity and permeability: Inpyrfluxam is systemic and foliar permeable, being quickly absorbed by plants and evenly distributed to improve efficacy and durability, especially fit for foliar treatment and seed treatment.
Resistance management: The chemical structure of Inpyrfluxam (pyrazole amide containing indenyl group) differentiates itself from other SDHI fungicides, which is of help to put off the emergence of pathogen resistance, to the benefit of further enhancement of resistance management.
Convenient mixture and application: After mixing with fungicides like metominostrobin and chlorothalonil, the product can simultaneously prevent and control the four major soybean diseases (rust, target spot, anthracnose, powdery mildew) to reduce the mixing deviation and improve the efficiency of pesticide application.
At present, the global inpyrfluxam market is promising. On the one hand, the worldwide green economic and sustainable development policies are accelerating transformation of agricultural chemicals towards low toxicity and high efficiency. In this regard, inpyrfluxam, as a low environmental risk product, falls in line with the trend of reduction of pesticide use and increase of efficiency, especially in the North American market, where the product will benefit from policy support. On the other hand, with the increased emergence of resistance to conventional fungicides, the demand for novel products with new mechanism of action is increasing. The unique chemical structure (SDHI) and the features of mixture (e.g., synergistic effect with metominostrobin) can effectively put off the emergence of resistance, having become an important alternative for resistance management.
