Chlorantraniliprole registered in China first time for control of grassland locusts

On January 16, 2025, chlorantraniliprole 200g/L SC of Jiangsu Gongcheng Bio-tech Co., Ltd was granted registration in China for extended application to control of grassland locust, which is the first time registration of chlorantraniliprole in China for control of locusts.

The original registration was for control of cabbage beet armyworm and populus fall webworm. The extended application aims at control of young nymphs in peak period, to be used at dosage of 8-12 ml/mu, added with 30-60 kg of water, being evenly sprayed 1 time, with safety interval of 5 days.

According to researchers of the College of Plant Protection of Shenyang Agricultural University, chlorantraniliprole showed strong toxicity against grassland locusts such as Calliptamus abbreviatus, Chorthippus brunneus and Myrmeleotettix Palpalis. According to researchers of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the mixture of Metarhiziu with chlorantraniliprole at ratio of 8:2 and 5:5 exhibits a synergistic effect against migratory locusts.

Up to now, a total of 18 pesticides against grassland locusts were granted registration in China, including only 2 chemical pesticides which are chlorantraniliprole and imidacloprid, whilst all others are biological products such as matrine, beauveria bassiana, azadirachtin and osthole.
